Title: Naval Architect
Seeking a Naval Architect to support the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) Marine Safety Center (MSC), Washington DC for vessel design review in determining compliance with regulations and industry standards under the Vessel Design Plan Review (VDPR) Program. The incumbent supports the Hull Division, MSC as a staff engineer.
Position Description:
Provide program management and technical support in the review of assigned drawings and associated data for commercial vessels. Performance supports detail review of vessel Hull Structure and Stability plans using CG provided regulations, standards and guidelines including, but not limited to the following actions:
Assess the adequacy of data submitted and analyze technical content to determine plan compliance with governing standards and regulations.
Prepare written correspondence based on the review for MSC release to the submitter.
Maintain effective project liaison with professional engineering and maritime industry representatives as well as client officials.
Maintain individual performance measurements with routine database entries and monthly summary assessments of plan review activities supported.
Position Qualifications:
US citizen or permanent resident as evidenced by Alien Registration Receipt Card Form I-151.
A bachelor’s degree in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering or a related engineering discipline from an accredited college or university, a professional engineer’s license or equivalent experience.
Minimum of 15 years experience in naval architecture or marine engineering work with 10 or more years spent in ship structure, stability, arrangements or other hull systems disciplines.
Working knowledge in the use and application of General HydroStatics (GHS) software and other related structural engineering programs.
Experience or familiarization with the following standards highly desired: American Bureau of Shipping (ABS); Det Norske Veritas (DNV); Lloyds Register (LR) Rules for Classification of Ships; National Fire Protection Association (NFPA); International Maritime Organization (IMO) High Speed Craft Code; MARPOL 73/78; Survival of Life at Sea (SOLAS); 33 CFR Subchapter O; 46 CFR Subchapters D, H, I, K, L, S, T.
Candidate must demonstrate skills in written and oral communications, be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Word, Excel and Outlook, and be capable of using client databases.
Security Clearance:
Not required; however a personal background check must support access to client network and database resources.

Title: Analyst
Seeking an Analyst to be located in Washington, DC, at the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) Marine Safety Center (MSC) for review and determination of compliance of Vessel Security Plans (VSP) with Federal Regulations and Maritime Standards. The Vessel Security Division, which is comprised of George G. Sharp, Inc. personnel under the oversight of the MSC Vessel Security Division Chief, is entrusted with the review and approval of vessel security plans (VSP) required by the Marine Transportation Security Act (MTSA) of 2002.
Position Description:
The candidate shall provide program management and technical support to the client in the review of Vessel Security Plan submissions. Performance requirements include but are not limited to the following:
Perform detailed examination and reviews of submitted security plans, amendments and Ship Security Alert System Annexes independently and as a member of a review team. Evaluate findings and develop written comments based on the results of the review for the use of a facilitator when contacting the initial submitter.
Participate and provide technical support review of the security plans in the area of Quality Assurance (QA) with the QA Team. Submit comments sheets, ensuring all items missing from the security plan are identified correctly.
Function in a facilitator capacity and as a member of the Facilitator Team, engage the Submitter of the security plan and resolve deficiencies found within the security plan. Respond to any questions and provide the Submitter with a single point of contact to assist them successfully through the approval process.
Prepare submission of documents for placement in files, update the Microsoft Access Metrics Tracking Database, perform data entry tasks in the USCG MISLE Database, including creating new records, attaching files, inserting notes and closing the record when the task is complete. Scan paper vessel security plans and convert electronic vessel security plans into Adobe Acrobat PDF files. Assist with the writing and maintaining of work instructions and procedures. Assist the Program Manager with any special tasks that may arise.
Position Requirements:
Bachelors Degree in Arts or Sciences from an accredited college or university, or equivalent experience.
The candidate must have good computer skills and be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Word, Excel and Outlook.
Secret clearance required.
Salary commensurate with experience.
